I am an "eclectic" psychologist. I believe that our mental paradigms, conscious and unconscious, permeate everything else in our lives, like our perceptions of the world, our beliefs about ourselves and what is possible, our day to day emotions, our visions and dreams for the future, and our choices and actions in the present.

I see psychotherapy as a way to recalibrate these schemas so that the results match expectations. It starts with becoming aware that we have schemas. It continues with evaluating their functionality in relation to our aspirations. And of course there is already right there a bunch of feedback loops that will lead to recalibrating the expectations themselves. Then there is a whole process of implementing the changes that will make the aspirations become reality, and in a lasting way.

This approach applies to both individuals and couples. Most couples have not spent enough time negotiating their visions of the future. They just assume that love is magical. Well, if you read this, you know it is not.

My expertise is in the treatment of bipolar disorders and anxiety disorders.

I work with adults and adolescents age 15 and older, in individual, couples, and families sessions.

Thoughts and Recommendations

You may feel anxious about getting into the process.  Think about it as an optimization: the optimization of your well-being and capability to orchestrate a rewarding time on Earth.  It will contribute to your continued growth and to what family, a formal education, and life did not accomplish: a sense of comfort with who you are. It is unfortunate that many conceptualize psychotherapy as a stigma.

Psychotherapy starts with you taking full responsibility for your destiny. It is not about fixing the world: it is about learning to look at it and at yourself differently.  It is about becoming aware of, enhancing, and learning to use your skills, your abilities, and your talents to modify or adapt to your environment.

This is arduous work: the path is filled with demons guarding obstacles preventing progress at every step. Psychotherapy brings you to realize that those demons are nothing but the figment of your imagination. Once aware, you can make them your pets... And then the fun begins!

(The Serenity Prayer)
